Liberty Book Covers

2009
Visual System

Liberty Books is a fictional publisher focused on contemporary political, scientific, and social subjects. Their brief asked for a uniform, bold, and memorable visual system to set them apart from other publishers.

Black and white imagery communicates the seriousness of many of the publisher's controversial social and political books. When printed with pure yellow ink, the books stand out on the shelf, are easily remembered, and are also more economical to print.

The most powerful cover, The Shock Doctrine, critiques Milton Friedman's economic policies. The bar code for the book is placed over Friedman's face, conveying the concept of the book using the materials of the book cover as a tool instead of a required limitation.
